This Privacy Policy explains how the SelamBooks mobile application (the "App"), published by Ethio Digital Platforms PLC ("we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, stores, and protects information. SelamBooks is an offline-first point-of-sale, inventory, and accounting app for businesses in Ethiopia.
1. Summary
- The App is offline-first: your business records are stored on your device and continue to work without an internet connection.
- When you are online, your data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and synced to our secure backend so it can be restored and managed for your business.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
- The App requests only network permissions (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE). It does not access your location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos, or files.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account and business identity
- Owner and staff display names you enter to set up sign-in and roles.
- Recovery contact (optional): a phone number or email address you may provide so the business owner's account can be recovered. This is optional and used only for account recovery.
- Device and tenant identifiers: a generated device ID and the business it is bound to, used to keep each business's data isolated and to prevent unauthorized access.
2.2 Business operational data
- Business profile details such as store name, business type, custom business type, departments, and categories you enter.
- Products, prices, stock levels, reorder points, and SKU/catalog information.
- Sales transactions, customer names you enter, quantities, prices, and payment status/channel such as cash, credit, or bank.
- Purchase orders, supplier names, invoice references, delivery/payment status, and amounts owed.
- Reports, summaries, exports, backups, and sync records you create.
- Bulk upload rows you paste into the App for products, sales, or purchases, which are processed into your business records when you submit them.
This is your business's own operational data. It is stored on your device and synced to your isolated business account.
2.3 Diagnostics and analytics
- Crash and stability data via Google Firebase Crashlytics, to diagnose and fix problems.
- Aggregate app-usage analytics via Google Firebase Analytics, to understand feature usage and improve the App.
3. How We Use Information
- Display names and device/tenant IDs — app functionality, sign-in, security, and keeping each business's data isolated.
- Recovery phone/email (optional) — account recovery for the business owner.
- Store profile, business type, departments, categories, products, sales, purchases, and suppliers — running the point-of-sale, inventory, reporting, backup, and sync features.
- Crash logs and diagnostics — detecting and fixing crashes and stability issues.
- App-usage analytics — understanding usage and improving the App.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for advertising. We use trusted service providers strictly as data processors on our behalf:
- Supabase — secure cloud sync and backup of your business data.
- Google Firebase — crash reporting and analytics.
- Legal authorities, only when required by law.
5. Data Security
- All synced data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.
- Each business is isolated (multi-tenant separation) so one business cannot access another's data.
- Devices are bound to a single business and can be revoked; sign-in uses owner/staff roles with PIN protection.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Your business data is retained while your account is active so the App can function and your records remain available. You may request export or deletion of your business data, or removal/revocation of a device, by contacting us or your SelamBooks operator. We will action verified deletion requests within a reasonable period, subject to any records we must retain for legal or accounting obligations.
7. Children's Privacy
SelamBooks is a business tool and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
